Miss Nelson is a serif display font with an elegant x-height that evokes nostalgic comfort. It is intended for use in print pieces, with specific intention around children’s books and illustrations. It should be used in headlines and large copy.
Miss Nelson has small caps and uppercase ligatures for various letter pairings. It also contains contextual ligatures for sentence starting capitals.
In order to establish the thick and thin relationship between Miss Nelson’s glyphs, classic serif fonts such as Didot and Bodoni were examined. Consideration was put into the formation of the serifs, and the pieces were cut and used to form sequential letters in order to maintain consistency, and then edited later to ensure stability within the letterform.
Special consideration was given to the proportional relationship between the uppercase and small caps glyphs, to ensure that the thick and thin relationships correlate with each other at different scales.
